There have been a number of recent changes to CasePoint: the end-to-end eDiscovery platform from @Legal Discovery. Here are some of the recent updates that have made CasePoint even better:
- Support for three monitors! It might sound crazy, but CasePoint gives you options.
- Word Wheel - we are excited about all of our many ways to find/search with “better” words…our word wheel is just one more option to find the perfect search terms.
- Create folders/issues/tags on the fly with a right-mouse click. (As long as you have the rights to do so). This makes CasePoint much faster for admins and power-users.
- Support for left-handed reviewers! We added the ability to “flip” around the coding and family panels to better meet the needs of left-handed reviewers. Flip back and forth at will.
- Support for 24 million database records!! OK, this is not a new feature, but in a recent case we had over 24 million images and CasePoint kept moving along without a hiccup. Give us your cases large and small - we have you covered.
All of these changes build on top of our already successful, end-to-end platform that includes:
- Filtering/Deduplication
- Early Case Assessment (ECA)
- Full Review
- Native Review
- TIFF Review
- Near DeDupe and Email Threading
- Complete Batch Management
- Productions and Exhibits
- Case Management

@Legal Discovery will be a sponsor of the ACEDS 2012 conference in Hollywood, Florida.
ACEDS is building a community of e-discovery specialists for the exchange of ideas, guidance, training and best practices, and offers e-discovery certification.

We think ACEDS will lead to a greater exchange of ideas in the eDiscovery community, which is a very good thing.
It is fun to put an oar in the water on occasion and predict what will come of the upcoming year. While eDiscovery is an dynamic and ever-changing marketplace (which generally makes predictions difficult), our industry has matured greatly and some things are inevitable. With that as a backdrop, here our our predictions:
- Computer-aided review will gain momentum
- Predictable, all-inclusive pricing for standard review (filter>ECA>review>production) will become more common and aggressive
- Hosted eDiscovery solutions will outpace “traditional” solutions

Computer-Aided Review
There is no doubt that technology can make document review faster and more efficient. And while some people will always be skittish about statistical-based review (likely because of their own confusion about statistics), it is hard to argue with faster review times and greater accuracy.
@Legal Discovery has had computer-aided technology in its CasePoint review platform for quite some time. While we have not led with this feature set to our customer base, we recognize that 2012 will the year that computer-aided review will begin to take off in earnest; so expect to see us stepping up our game in this area.
Predictable, All-Inclusive eDiscovery
@Legal Discovery has been leading the charge in predictable pricing. Because we have our own eDiscovery platform (which covers filtering>ECA>review>productions>exhibits and more), we have always been strong supporters of the predictable pricing model. We see more and more engagements with our customers that require the use of predictable pricing to ensure cost stability and avoid surprises.
Our CasePoint eDiscovery platform has allowed us offer predictable eDiscovery pricing to our clients, while keeping our internal costs always under control. I cannot imagine how other service providers can effectively offer predictable pricing while relying on some of the tools they use to host data, etc (especially when reviewer counts can increase for large data sets). But for @Legal, we scale on demand for our clients without incurring additional fees and it looks like this model is here to stay.
Hosted eDiscovery Technology
There was a time when we in the industry would install eDiscovery tools on desktop computers, servers and even laptops. Need to process data? Need to OCR? Install a tool.
While that ad hoc approach worked fine for 5 GBs of data, it simply does not scale for 100, 250 or 800 GBs of data. In cases of large data sets, a distributed, hosted solution almost always out performs an ad hoc in-house solution.
@Legal’s CasePoint eDiscovery platform scales with the size of the web. 800 GBs, 2 TBs and 24 million pages of data are commonplace with our CasePoint technology. We are certain that as everyone’s data-size grows and grows that a hosted solution will be the only way the technology can go.
Happy New Year to all of our customers and friends!

@Legal has had an incredible 2011 and we look forward to working with you in 2012. Here are a few interesting bits from 2011:
Reviewers: Nearly 500
New Matters: 100+
Not bad for a company that started its service business just two years ago. Of course, we have been working on CasePoint (our eDiscovery platform and SaaS) for over four years and CasePoint is nothing short of a full eDiscovery solution:

Since we are always adding new features and technology to make eDiscovery more effective and efficient, no wonder we have grown so much in the past year.
May you be safe and happy in the year to come and, please, reach out to us if you would like to learn more about @Legal Discovery and CasePoint.
Here’s to a wonderful 2012!
We will be presenting at the Masters Conference this year. Looking forward to seeing familiar faces!

Stop by the booth and say hello. We will be near the food! :)
We have now released version 12 of our CasePoint eDiscovery platform.
Improvements in CasePoint 12 include:
- Quick Create
- Users with appropriate security rights now have the ability to create folders, tags and issues on the fly, right from the review platform, without the need to go to the administration menu.
- Speed Improvements
- CasePoint’s new version is twice as fast as CasePoint 11. Twice. Faster navigation, faster document viewing and faster sorting and filtering. We know speed is very important, so we are especially thrilled to roll out this enhancement.
- Faster Batch Access
- We have improved the speed and capabilities of the batch management system. Filter by review phase, batch name or who is working on a batch with a simple click of the mouse.
- Document Viewer
- We have added enhanced navigation options throughout the document viewer. Faster document loading, easier access to family members and improved placement of navigation controls to speed along the work of document reviewers.
CasePoint 12 is a unique eDiscovery platform that includes filtering, ECA, processing, large-scale hosting, productions and exhibits all in one platform. CasePoint 12’s unified platform and technological efficiency makes it possible to manage large cases at a fraction of the cost of other options in the market.
Our very own David Carns wrote an article on the Women in eDiscovery blog entitled, “Why I Admire the Women in My Family.”
The theme is that the women in David’d life have taught him invaluable lessons, including:
- Living with ambiguity
- Focusing on education and world experience
- Being your own advocate

@Legal Discovery sponsored the November meeting of the Women in eDiscovery’s DC Chapter.
It was our honor to sponsor such a wonderful organization. We certainly feel that the eDiscovery community needs more opportunities for its constintuents to gather and talk about trends and best practices in the industry. Women in eDiscovery makes that happen.
I suppose every company needs an elevator pitch. I was at a conference over the weekend with attorneys, policy makers and economists. Some knew about eDiscovery, others did not…none were eDiscovery “insiders.” So how did I explain @Legal to them? I shared our three strengths:
- One-stop eDiscovery
- Reasonable, predictable pricing
- Customers have our attention and support
I could have gone into our processing engine or our fabulous review platform. I could have focused on the number of terabytes we can process and host in our data center. In the end, however, I just shared our three strengths…and I think that describes us best.
